All in a Days Work |
ALL IN A DAYS WORKThe requirements for gathering data to compile Energy Performance Certificates is constantly changing, it is becoming more involved as heating systems, renewable energy systems, insulation materials and the suchlike become increasingly complex.Energy Assessors have to undergo continuous professional development and training to keep pace with advancements and produce accurate energy assessments.Clearly, this will mean that an energy assessor will need to spend more time at a property and more time compiling the report. For those who don’t know – energy assessors are regularly audited, at random, by their accreditation schemes and have to upload all evidence and justifications for their decisions. There is little or no room for error so the energy assessors approach to all jobs must be thorough and accurate. It saddens me that in the midst of these changes and with increasing demand on our knowledge and technical ability that some energy assessors are driving down the price of their work – where will it end ? Some assessors are accepting such low fees for their work it is demeaning to the whole profession. I can only assume they are being bullied into acceptance by larger providers who are taking a cut for themselves. The upshot is that it cannot continue. The knowledge required to do the job is greater, the time it takes is greater, the cost of travelling to a property is greater, lodgement fees are greater since the vat increase – it doesn’t take a lot of working out. So, to all you energy assessors out there, lets stand up as professionals and charge a reasonable fee for doing a professional job.
